What this measures. How many slots the RPC's finalized slot sits behind its processed tip, read in one batch and averaged over recent reads, times the recent ms per slot from getRecentPerformanceSamples. Before Alpenglow this gap was about 32 slots, roughly 12.8 s.

Why you don't race it. It only resolves to whole slots (~210 ms each), coarser than finality itself, and it counts the slot still being built. So the game races the published figure, ~150 ms, and says so.

The numbers drifting behind this page are real slots from these reads, one per read. A dot marks a slot once a later read shows it finalized.

03what alpenglow changed

    PoH and Tower BFT are out of consensus, replaced by Votor (voting) and Rotor (block propagation).

  3. vote transactions

    Validators no longer vote with on-chain transactions, freeing the block space votes used to take.

Checked against mainnet on 2026-10-21: epoch 1064 starts at slot 459,648,000, vote transactions are ~0% of all transactions in performance samples, and the finalized slot trails the tip by 0-2 slots instead of ~32.
